Karaoke Fool
A few months ago my wife bought the Leadsinger microphone. I figured this was something we would have fun with for a few days and then it would collect dust in a drawer. Was I ever wrong. We had a lot of fun for hours and hours. We have plugged it in many times and had a great time with it every single time.
This is much different than the old karaoke machines you buy at most department stores. This little gadget is a quality microphone. The cord is nice and long and plugs into our stereo receiver with the video and left/right speaker jacks. Set the tv to channel 4 and press the game button on the receiver and the game comes up on the television screen and the sound comes out the stereo speakers.
The songs are stored in chips which are stored inside the microphone itself. It can hold 4 chips at a time which is several hundred songs. Buttons on the microphone allow you to set the key of the song or add echo to the microphone and other things. You can scroll through the song list and when you find a song you want to give a try, press play and the music starts. Some of it is bad midi music but most of it is done by fairly good studio bands.
I’m not a very good singer but I have good timing. This game actually keeps score on how well you are doing. If you aren’t a good singer you can still get a good score by having good timing. Starting and stopping the words as they go by. If you are a good singer, you can get good scores by raising and lowering your pitch correctly.
I find I can sing just about any of the songs by the band Bread and get a high score.
There is also a game that you can play where each team gets three randomly selected songs. The totals for all the songs are added together for the final scores. It’s a lot of fun because you never know what you are going to get. You may not have ever heard the song before and get a really poor score but then the next song is “If” by Bread and you kick butt.
We have five or six chips which we purchased from an online auction website and got fairly cheaply. We have country, rock, children’s, teens, holiday, and hits of 2005 or something like that. I don’t like the hits of 2005 because I don’t know any of the songs but my wife and neighbors seem to know quite a few of them.
I will be purchasing 60’s - 70’s pop rock soon. I think I can sing over half of the songs on that chip. I think Vegas & Elvis would be a nice one to have too.
I’m not much of a gamer but this little microphone has really been a lot of fun for me. If you want to karaoke in the privacy of your own home, I think this little microphone is about as good as you will see on the market.

If you love karaoke and the new hit show The Singing Bee, you have to check out i-Sing! A special Singing Bee version of i-Sing™ will be making its debut before the big holiday season. i-Sing™ is an interactive portable handheld karaoke player which allows its user to play music, display lyrics, sing, and record all at the same time! The best part is that it not only displays lyrics, but it drastically reduces/eliminates the lead vocals. Check it out at http://www.i-sing.com

I don’t want to waste a bunch of time using the lyric creator software to drown out vocals on an mp3 and then have to add lyrics in sync with the music. That sounds like it could take hours. I just want to plug it in and go. The speaker looks cheap and the ear piece looks uncomfortable. The plastic casing looks like the type you get on the cheapest toys such as plastic whistles. The display screen looks absolutely horrid. At $119.00 you would be much better off with the leadsinger microphone which hooks into a real stereo system. Really, for about the same price, it would compare like a Barbie Car to, well, a real car.
