Benja22 Tackles the Immigration Problem

I’ve been thinking on the immigration issue for 5 or 10 minutes now so I believe it’s time for me to offer up my expert opinion.

Apparently, the problem is that a bunch of people that are not supposed to, are immigrating to the United States.

They take jobs from us that none of us really want. They work on farms getting in the crops for very low wages. They are a strain on our social and medical services.

There are some ideas out there on what to do about the situation. Building a 12 foot high wall along the border is one of them. It’s 700 miles long and cost 2.2 Billion dollars. In Mexico you can build a 13 foot tall ladder for 2.2 dollars.

A guest worker program is also being discussed. So now instead of working at low paying jobs that we really didn’t want anyway, they are now going to be allowed to work in auto and aircraft assembly plants. You think people are mad cause they are picking our lettuce? See how they react to that.

Then there are various types of enforcement from N.I.S. and the U.S. border patrol. The equivalent of picking up fish along the beach and tossing them back in the water for them to swim to shore again. Periodic raids are done on businesses to round up illegal immigrants and send them back to their country of origin. This is rarely done if there is a harvest of crops going on in the region. Those farmers have to get their crops to market and the U.S. enjoys a bountiful and comparatively inexpensive food supply partially due to the cheap labor provided by the illegal migrant workers.

So what does benja22 think we should be doing about the problem? I think we are already doing it. Not much. This may be the most successful thing the government has ever done. I wonder if it’s not on purpose.

Sure, have laws against illegal immigration. Once in a while we should even go out and enforce those laws. A raid here and there and a respectably sized border patrol are great. Being ineffective in those efforts isn’t such a bad idea.

They take away jobs we don’t want and work for little pay. In return, our food prices are low. We pay a little more for social and medical services but not as much as we would be paying at the grocery store if I was working in that field at the salary I would demand for such back breaking work.

Let the politicians hoot and holler from time to time. Let them debate and carry on. Let them talk themselves into inaction and keep the status quo.

We may complain about the illegal immigration problem but the truth is that we need them and they need us. Let’s not do anything at all. Keep our laws and turn a blind eye. It seems to work pretty well.

I shall now spend 10 minutes pondering the Israeli/Palestinian issue.

Okay, I’m on board with that solution. Brilliant, I’d say.
